Dry Lake Bed: Clear Lake in summer

The last time I waded into Clear Lake, it was almost full and I was wearing rubber boots. Round here, many of the lakes are shallow and go dry in the summer – this time I waded through fairy grass Lachnagrostis filiformis, a commonly seen coloniser of dry lake beds in the Wimmera. There were yellow tailed black cockatoos in the dead trees in the middle, their calls lending an eerie joy to the experience.
