Explosions of Colour: checking out the local wildflower scene

P9130099 collage

I joyously confess I’m pretty fortunate to live in the country and have access to amazing bushland that comes alive with wildflowers each spring – even more so twelve months or so following a bushfire or controlled burn which, amazingly, can invigorate Australia’s flora.

On a sunny early-spring afternoon it is a joy to shuffle through the undergrowth, scanning the ground for these colourful and (usually) dainty offerings – among them the tiny carnivorous sundews, twining lilies, wax lip orchids, “billy buttons”, running postman, pink fairies orchids, and many others whose names I don’t know, that you can see in this collage.
